We have all shrieked shouted and screamed in conjuring. Many have even peed in their pants during the nun scene. But what is even scarier is the other feature of the Conjuring Franchise and that is the doll Annabelle. Annabelle 2 thrilled audiences worldwide on 18th august but how many know of the real life Annabelle doll which terrorized the home of two girls Donna and Angie.
It was this very same Annabelle doll that is possessed and resides in a glass case in the house of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
The real life Annabelle is even deadlier than the movie counterpart
The real life Annabelle doll is even more evil and deadly than its celluloid counterpart. What’s even more intriguing is the fact that it doesn’t even look like what is shown in celluloid. It is just a small raggedy Ann doll but so sinister and treacherous that it had to be exorcised and enclosed in a glass case kept in Ed and Lorraine Warren’s occult museum in Monroe, Connecticut. Lorraine Warren once remarked, “It’s not what the doll looks like that makes it scary; it is what has been infused within the doll: evil!! Looks are deceiving, “she said.
The doll’s reign of terror began in 1970 when it was gifted to Donna and Angie. The doll became a nightmare for the family. The doll would be seen appearing in different locations in the house. At one time the girls calmed it tried strangling a friend and was seen raised levitating above the chair. Notes written on parchment of paper appeared all over the house. Some said “help us” while others said “Help Lou” which was a friend of the girls.
The spirit who possessed a dead girl
When the girl’s mother spotted blood on the dolls hands, she felt she needed help and called a séance. A medium explained during a séance involving the doll that the doll might have been possessed by a 7 year old girl named Annabelle Higgins. Annabelle was so attached to the doll that she decided to possess it. This made the girls feel sorry for the spirit that they decided to keep the doll. But!! That turned out to be their biggest mistake.
The doll’s brutal attack
The doll seemed to have a dislike for their friend Lou. In a brutal attack, Lou found the doll sitting in his chest and began strangling him. He blacked out and upon waking in the morning wasn’t sure it was a dream or reality.
The next day Lou and Angie heard a sound form Donnas’ room although she wasn’t there. They found Annabelle sitting on a chair staring at them sarcastically. He looked at the doll in fear and then he froze when he found claw like marks appearing in his chest. Yet there was no one in the room except Annabelle.
Ed and Lorraine Warren step in
It was then that Ed and Lorraine warren were contacted through the reference of a local priest. The Warrens after thorough investigations after ruling out any form of hoax or other influences concluded that the doll was possessed by an inhuman demonic spirit. They explained how demonic spirits can possess and become attached with inanimate objects.
The warrens then used special exorcism prayers to bind the spirit within the doll and since then have encased it in glass and kept it in their occult museum that houses similar possessed objects.
People are warned never to mock Annabelle
Although visitors are allowed, the warrens warn never to mock Annabelle. A man once tried mocking and scratching the case after which the warrens asked him to leave. He was killed immediately after he left the museum crashing his bike into a tree. His girlfriend who joined in the mimicking remained in hospital for a year.
Lorraine Warren hates the doll and since her Husband’s death has never looked at it saying it was the worst thing in the museum. Incidentally when the crew were shooting for conjuring 2, weird events on the set convinced the crew it was haunted and a priest was called in to bless the entire set.
