Tribe Living On This Remote Indian Island Kills Anyone Who Tries To Wade Ashore

Off the coast of India, near the Bay of Bengal and near the Andaman Nicobar Islands of India lies the North Sentinel Island. The inhabitants of that Island remain far away from our civilization and no one makes contact with them. This island is considered to be one of the last uncivilized places on Earth.

This indigenous tribe has lived on this Island for a long time without having any contact with the outside world. Any person who has tried to reach or explore the island has been killed.

A three mile exclusion zone has been established for outsiders by The Indian government because North Sentinel is very dangerous and it was an effort to prevent extra violence.

The tribe people even prevented the Indian coastguard helicopter from landing to take away the fishermen’s bodies by constantly shooting arrows at them.

A ship named Primose had grounded on North Sentinel Island on August 2 1982. In a short period of time, the sailors noticed that the tribe people were coming at them with arrows and spears while building boats on the beach.

The captain had asked for them to drop their weapons through the radio, but they didn’t receive the message. The heavy sea helped in saving the crew members life as the island was very far from them and it gave them sufficient time for the helicopter to come and rescue them.

Unharmed during the great Tsunami of 2004

After the Indian Ocean Earthquake in 2004, the Indian government had sent a helicopter to have a check on the sentinelese tribe because the other islands were affected drastically, but fortunately the sentinelese were unharmed.

The people on the helicopter noticed the inhabitants throwing stones and shooting arrows at them.

Living on the island for 60,000 years

The population of the sentinelese is believed to be 50 to 400 and have said to live on this island for 60,000 years in isolation.  It is very difficult to observe the lives of the sentinelese as the deep tree canopy is too dense, but they are assumed to be hunter gatherers rather than growing crops. This all can be said from the limited observational data.

It is forbidden to visit the Island

The last victim was US missionary John Chau who went there on his own risk in an attempt to evangelize the tribe. It is illegal to visit the island and the Indian government does not give permission in a bid to preserve the culture of the tribes and in fear that outsiders may introduce disease and microbes to the community who have no access to modern medical treatment.
