Not too long ago air travel was mainly meant for rich people. There was also a time when kids got easily excited when they heard they were to be taken to the park or playground. However, kids between the ages of 12-15 nowadays spend nearly 12.2 hours a week playing video games, according to an a2017 survey. This is pretty much what the future looks like and it is still a topic of debate that whether this is a good thing or not. Is the normal stuff that we do these days actually benefiting us or is it increasing our dependency on technology more so than ever?
WheeBuzz brings you nostalgic photos of what people would do back then in comparison to what people do now, and see for yourself the changes in our lives brought about by technological advancement:
1. Humans and Computers
Health issues like obesity are one of the major concerns these days. This may be due to the fact that with the development of technology and computers we have come to depend on these machines a bit too much. Before, we would hardly spend a couple of hours on computers, but now we practically in front of our computers 24/7, either for work or entertainment.
In modern times, sulking over breakups has become impractical and a thing that no one does. They’d rather move on with their lives by going on adventures and tours to explore the world.
While love may still exist in a marriage, there is a considerable distance between couples in these times. The cause of this distance can only be attributed to the increase in the use of modern technology.
4. Money Withdrawal
Waiting in long lines at the bank and having to deal with an enormous amount of paperwork just to get your money out, seems a thing of the past now. With the help of technology withdrawing cash has become as easy as getting a soda from a vending machine.
5. Movie Theaters
Just sitting and watching movies with your popcorn isn’t enough these days. The younger generation likes it better if the movies are in 3D or 4D. In fact, there are theatres that enable you to watch movies from the convenience of your own car. These are known as drive-in-theatres.
6. Schools and Corporal Punishment
With the enactment of new laws regulating the punishments meted out to students in schools and other institutions, kids nowadays don’t need to be frightened of their teachers anymore. No teacher will risk hitting a student as they could get into some serious problems.
Streets no longer appear deserted and public places are always crowded. This only means that there has been a population spurt worldwide.
Huge lavish houses or properties have become insanely expensive and common people can no longer think of affording them. Small apartments are a much viable substitute, as space has also become very limited.
9. Talking to Friends
Social media seems to have taken over our social lives. Before, we wouldn’t be that busy to hang out with friends, but all that has changed, and we largely depend on social media to interact and communicate with our friends.
10. The Way Kids Play
It has become a thing of the past when children would eagerly wait for their time to get together with their friends or playmates and rush outside to play. While this helped them form bonds with each other, it even made them get some good physical activity. But, it seems videogames have become the new means through which youngsters and kids connect with one another and play these days.
To contact someone in a foreign country you would have to book an overseas call with a telephone operator. This method is no longer relevant since you can easily video call a person living in any part of the world sometimes without even having to spend a dime.
Video games, computers, mobile phones, and television have replaced house parties, playing outside or in the streets and picnics altogether. Children are much more engrossed in staying indoors and communicating with others from behind a screen.
Gone are the days when you’d need to stay back at the office sometimes even overnight for a day or two just to complete the huge piles of paperwork and reduce the files piling up on your desk. With the help of technology, you can work from home which makes it more convenient and less time-consuming.
14. The Structure of the Family
Joint families nowadays are a pretty rare sight, ever since the advent of the nuclear family structure. Owing to the fact that housing has become smaller and much costlier, nuclear families seem to be a more practical solution to tackle such a problem.
