The hectic fast-paced modern lifestyle along with having to wait in long lines in uncomfortable footwear make our feet go through a really tough time. Needless to say, that this only results in our own discomfort, which may even be affecting our overall health. In such a case, we shouldn’t neglect taking extra care of our toenails and feet.
To keep your toenails and feet in tip-top condition WheeBuzz brings you these 6 useful feet care tips:
1. Ensure that your feet are kept dry
Keeping your feet dry is one of the basic principles of hygiene. This is because fungus tends to grow in moist conditions which serve as a favorable environment. Here are some tips on how you can go about keeping your feet dry
After taking a shower, dry your feet thoroughly with a towel. Opt for shoes that are made from natural materials which allow your skin to breathe. Don’t wear the same pair of shoes for several days in a row
2. Start trimming your toenails the proper way
If you don’t trim your toenails properly it can result in your nails growing inwards which can be quite painful. You can prevent this by following these tips:
Push your cuticles backwards to the base of your nails by using an orangewood stick instead of cutting them
Don’t go rounding the corners and trim your toenails straight across
If you trim your toenails too short it could result in an infection or ingrown toenails
3. Keep your toenails healthy
You can very well avoid ingrown toenails and the subsequent pain that follows by following this procedure:
- Keep your feet soaked in warm water that has been mixed with salt (1 tablespoon per liter) for about 15-20 minutes.
- Lift your nail up gently after placing clean dental floss under the edge of it.
- You can use antiseptic to treat the area and then proceed to bandage your toe in order to prevent it from infections.
- Keep doing this procedure everyday till your toe is completely healed.
However, if this procedure fails to work out and you notice signs of infection, then you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
4. Soaking your feet in warm water
At least once a week, soak your feet in warm water for 15-20 minutes. This practice will make your heels baby soft, and your feet appear simply gorgeous. In addition, you may add essential oils, herbal infusions, or salt to the warm water in which you soak your feet. This helps in re-energizing your feet. Once you finish soaking your feet, you may use a pumice stone or a foot scrub to remove the dry and skin from your feet.
5. Moisturize your foot
You can moisturize your feet with creams containing emollients like Vaseline, Dimethicone, and lanolin and moisturizing ingredients like lecithin, and glycerin, which are considered the best to use on the feet. However, do not ever moisturize in between your toes as this causes fungus.
6. Massage your feet
To get rid of fatigue, improve blood circulation and keep your feet healthy, give yourself a good foot massage. You can opt to buy a foot massager for this purpose, or you may simply use an ordinary tennis ball or any round object, by placing it under your foot and then rolling it back and forth from the toes till the heel. Repeat this with the other foot too.
