Here are 8 habits that damage kidneys.

1. Smoking

Smoking is one of the worst habits that damage kidneys. It is bad for blood pressure and introduces several toxins into your body. Besides adversely affecting your health, it narrows blood vessels in the kidneys and causes arteriosclerosis in the renal arteries increasing the risk of kidney damage.

2. Constantly Holding It In

Putting off urination just because you’re too engrossed in something is an extremely bad habit that retains toxins in the kidneys.  Nature’s call should always be answered right away. It could lead to incontinence as well as kidney stones.

3. Eating Too Much Sweet

Giving in to your sweet cravings is also a bad habit that damages kidneys. Foods like candy, sodas and processed snacks increase fructose that increases uric acid in the body, this leads to cardiorenal disease. Excess sugar can also increase the risk of diabetes.

4. Not Monitoring Your Blood Pressure

It is extremely important to keep track of your blood pressure because hypertension increases the chances of kidney damage. Always practice measures to control your blood pressure where normal levels should remain between 120/80 and less than 140/90 Hg.5

5. Too Much Medication

When your doctor has prescribed you medication, don’t go increasing it even if your illness continues. Harsh medication can cause kidney damage when taken in excess or incorrectly. OTC medication like ibuprofen, aspirin, and acetaminophen are all dangerous for kidney health.

6. Skipping Exercise

Exercise is one of the most important factors of a healthy life. It improves metabolism and circulation. Obesity and being overweight can impair renal function. Exercise keeps your kidneys, heart and well your entire body happy. Avoid these habits that damage kidneys and you will be in much better health.

7. Abusing the Salt Shaker

Diets with excessive sodium and processed foods can increase blood pressure and, harm your kidneys. Flavour your foods with herbs and spices instead of salt.  Your taste will adapt and soon you will find yourself avoiding salt.

8. Overdoing the meat

Eating too much meat is bad because of acid in the blood that can be harmful to the kidneys. It can cause acidosis where kidneys cannot eliminate acid fast enough. While protein is needed for muscle and tissue growth, excessive consumption is bad. Balance your diet with plenty of fruits and veggies.
